Doppelherz B12 + D3 DIRECT supports nutrient intake with 350 μg vitamin B12 and 1,000 I.U. vitamin D3, even if there is an increased requirement. The practical micro-pellets are a modern dosage form for quick and direct intake. The fine granule pearls can be taken anytime and anywhere without any liquid – ideal for on the go or if you have difficulty taking tablets. The body can produce vitamin D itself through the effect of sufficient sunlight on our skin. However, especially in our more northern latitudes, and depending on the time of year and individual circumstances, our own production made possible by the sun is not always sufficient. Doppelherz B12 + D3 DIRECT contains vitamin B12 for energy metabolism and vitamin D for the normal function of the immune system. One stick contains 25 μg vitamin D3. This corresponds to 1,000 I.U. (international units) of vitamin D3. The granule pearls are gluten- and lactose-free.

Only animal foods contain significant amounts of vitamin B12. People on a vegan diet take in practically no vitamin B12 from plant foods. With a vegetarian diet, the B12 requirement can be covered by dairy products or eggs. However, a purely vegan diet should be supplemented with vitamin B12. Some plant-based foods, such as nori algae, or fermented foods such as sauerkraut do contain the vitamin – but only in very small quantities.

As a water-soluble and generally heat-sensitive vitamin, vitamin B12 (cobalamin) can be destroyed by excessive storage times and, in particular, cooking processes. It is therefore strongly recommended that foods containing B12 are handled with care. In addition, most vitamins can be absorbed directly by the intestinal mucosa. B12 is an exception here. In order for the B vitamin to enter the bloodstream via the mucous membrane, it requires a special protein: the so-called intrinsic factor (IF).

We produce less and less of this protein as we get older. As a result, the body can absorb less vitamin B12 in old age. The lack of the intrinsic factor is therefore probably the most common cause of an inadequate vitamin B12 supply.

The great importance of vitamin D for our health is now widely known. The pre-hormone, also known as the “sun vitamin”, supports the normal function of the immune system. Vitamin D also contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and normal muscle function. It supports the absorption of calcium in the bones and teeth and is therefore also regarded as an “integration aid”.
